Here you will find up-to-date information on Viking-age crafts as it emerges from our research, and reliable, easy-to-follow resources.
The project emerges from a collaboration between archaeologists at the universities of York, Aarhus, and Oslo, and experienced historic craftspeople.
The aim is to provide a way into the field via resources and information that can be relied upon for their accuracy and rigour. Our resources should be helpful in teaching from KS2 (Vikings) up to postgraduate degrees, and will be of use to anyone with an interest in learning more about these crafts.
About the project
The Viking Craft Network is a collaboration between academics, conservators and historic craftworkers in Denmark, Norway and the UK, intended to improve the popular understanding of, and engagement with, Viking-Age craft practice. This website provides an online hub for communication, through which we will disseminate digital resources, blogs, podcasts and videos alongside traditional research outputs. Our intention is that this will provide a one-stop shop for universities and their students, school teachers and children, museums and heritage institutions, re-enactors and historic craftworkers.
